June 11 2011

Thanks to all for a great turnout again on the weekend of June 10th. There were between 50 – 60 people at Kamp Kipa on Saturday. Coffee and snacks were available during the morning and afternoon, and lunch was served to the whole group. We welcome and need more workers for the rest of the summer! Much was accomplished last weekend including:

Started grading between the staff cabin and lodge

Built steps between staff cabin and lodge


Worked on areas around all cabins to finalize the pathways


Started removing brush and spread out dirt piles in all areas surrounding the cabins and pathways
Completed electrical work in staff cabin; it is now ready to trim
Backfilled the second drain pipe from one of the septic tanks to the drain field to protect the pipes


Completed and painted the exteriors of the lodge, staff cabin and men’s and women’s bathrooms


Cleaned, stained and final-coat sealed kitchen floor and handicapped bedrooms


Continued to move dirt to build up the gathering area adjacent to the patio off the lodge


Removed trees and brush in parking area by caretaker’s cabin
Dug footings for new saunas, they are ready for concrete
Final grading and trenching of drain fields for drainpipe

Listed below are the landscaping and constructions projects that we will continue to work on or begin doing:

Landscaping
Complete the pathways, landscaping, and retaining walls
Grade parking area by caretaker’s cabin
Cleanup landscape/remove brush – brush will not be burned until the monsoon rains begin
Build additional pathways and steps
Cut rebar, drill steps, and install rebar on steps
Place and line all pathways/steps with rocks and boulders
Final grade between lodge and staff cabin
Dig trenches for septic system
Install and pack AB
Build retaining wall with large boulders for additional area by patio
Cut trees and stage for burn or people to pick up
Construction
Permits secured to add on saunas to bathrooms so that work will begin
Complete installation and drywall in kitchen
Install kitchen hoods
Paint interior of lodge and kitchen
Clean, stain, and finish lodge floor
Trim staff cabin
Additional plumbing adjustments are needed based on inspections
Clean, stain and seal exteriors of all sleeping cabins

June 4 2011

We had a great turnout last Saturday! We counted approximately 45 people, not all are pictured. Every Saturday this summer all help will enjoy a morning coffee with baked goods, a lunch and an afternoon coffee.

A retaining wall was built on the southwest corner of the lodge. Above the wall will be a picnic area.

Another group worked on a stairway from the main road to the staff cabin. This work involved clearing a tree and small brush out of the way, laying gravel and finally steps.

A painting crew caulked the lodge, staff cabin and both bathhouses in prep for painting. The paint color was chosen and painting will start soon.

Clearing brush and debris is an ongoing project. This group spent the whole day hauling trailer loads away.

Many kids joined us at Kamp and were a good help. It is good for them to see how much work is going into their Kamp.
